Christmas stamps

The Royal Mail should be praised (perhaps you would like to do so!) for honouring the birth of Our Saviour in its Christmas stamps this year. The first and second class stamps show Jesus in the Arms of Mary and the Angel appearing to Joseph. The relevant biblical reference from Matthew’s Gospel is clearly given on each stamp.

All Christians should ensure that they buy and use these stamps for their Christmas mail and also encourage their Christian friends and contacts to do so as well. The stamps should be available from all Post Offices and stamp retailers from Tuesday 8th November.

If we as Christians can demonstrate massive support for these stamps, maybe the Royal Mail will reconsider its policy of promoting a purely secular view of this great Christian festival in alternate years. Meanwhile, if we fail in that, remember that the "Madonna" stamps remain available throughout the year and use those in the "secular" years.

Auntie Joanna and Auntie Kati join forces

The Catholic journalist, author and broadcaster, Joanna Bogle (above left) has joined forces with freelance illustrator Kati Teague to produce a book on the life of Blessed John Paul II. Entitled Blessed John Paul the Great, it contains 24 illustrated stories which introduce young (and old) readers to the life of this great man.

In her speech at the launch, held in our Westminster bookshop on Tuesday evening, Joanna pointed out what a privilege it is for those of us who lived through the Pontificate of John Paul II. We know, and therefore can appreciate, all that he gave the Church - his many writings, his worldwide visits, his leadership, the Mysteries of Light, World Youth Day, to name but a few. Yet, to the younger generation of Catholics John Paul II is but a name. Joanna hopes that her book will keep alive the legacy of this great pope.

The book can be purchased from any of our bookshops or online here. Please note, due to technical problems, our website does not at present have a picture of the cover. However, a selection of Kati's illustrations can be seen below.
